SHARADIYA JOM JOMOJAT, October 18, 2008
The evening started off slow but headed towards a very entertaining and eventful night. We saw a number of our members go forward and showcase their talent. There was a wide variety of food and a mixed crowd where we saw the young and old come together to appreciate a well organized cultural event. Since our members were encouraged many of them came forward to sing or recite poems. One of our upcoming singers and talented member,
Sukanya took the stage with Shayne Hyrapiet,
Pauloma to name a few. As had we all hoped Shayne gave us some classic English songs and we were more than delighted when he sang to us some favorites like Stuck on You and Because I Love you.
Not only was the entertainment and the food satisfying but our bearers made it their task to get drinks and food out promptly. All in all we have the cultural committee to thank for a wonderful evening and hope to enjoy many more.

INDEPENDANCE DAY CELEBRATED, August 15, 2008
On the bright and sunny morning of Independence Day, all of
the Youth for DI members came to DI in their beautiful
Indian attire and quite of lot of members came to celebrate
the day with the DI family. The spirit was extremely
cheerful with the decorations passing on the message of a
youthful and vibrant Independence Day. All the events were
planned out properly and had a beautiful blend of the youth
and age in their renditions.

The programme commenced
with the flag hoisting and the National Anthem. Then some
songs with beautiful messages were sung by a group of
members from DI accompanied by a band. They performed songs
like ‘Aye mere watan ke logo’, ’Muktiro Mondiro’ and many
more interspersed with a recitation of a poem. Everyone
around joined in the singing and the Badminton Court where
the programme was being held seemed to be energized with the
spirit of our fight for Independence.
Then came the
dance numbers performed by the Youth for DI on songs like
Rang de basanti and Vande Mataram. At the end of the
programme The President Derek O’ Brien spoke a few
words and encouraged this youthful participation from our
club.
Last but not least, the staff were given a
holiday on that day and so the Youth for DI members served
the complimentary breakfast to everybody. People sat in
their groups and had a nice time chatting with friends. The
programme ended successfully with a lot of appreciation from
the members. YOUTH FOR DI LAUNCHED. August 10, 2008
Anticipating the 'International Youth Day' on 12th August, in its amicable style DI launched the 'Youth for DI' (YFDI) on the 10th, August 2008.
Quite a few members of the club, including Mr. Lance D'Cruze (one of DI's oldest members) and
Mr. Neil O'Brien (a pillar of the Institute) bore witness to the unveiling of the YFDI Forum.
The evening proved to be a very pleasant and heartening experience for all those present to support our enthusiastic and extremely talented group of YFDI members.
Many of the senior members present remarked on the tremendous talent and potential waiting to be tapped from our very own club youngsters. Our very perceptive and progressive President,
Mr. Derek O'Brien had the insight to help form this forum by allowing the youth to make a head start in bringing about much-needed change in the '21st Century Family Club'!
Hats off to all you people who are helping tap the latent vitality, vigour and view points of young people. YFDI members who were a part of this inaugural ceremony, made a wonderful presentation of the 'Good Times' to come. DI is hoping all members are eagerly looking out for some great innovations and an injection of 'Zest and Life' back in the DI through this new formed Youth Forum!

LADIES COFFEE MEET. July 20, 2008
One the 20th of July, 2008 at five thirty in the evening a gathering of 40 plus women were enlightened about the benefits of aqua therapy by
Mrs. Rekha Alexander.
Aqua therapy unlike aerobics or stressful cardio work outs on land is a combination of various types of exercises carried out in water. It is especially beneficial for curing ailments like back and knee pain, joint pains etc. simply by exercising in water.
Anamika Ghose came forward and introduced us all to Rekha who is an old member of the club. She is also certified by FISAF as a therapist. Currently
Rekha is working at Solace – gym and spa where she helps many to recuperate. With the help of her two assistants,
Pauloma and Youhana, she demonstrated various exercises and explained their effect on our bodies.
Rekha even gave us plenty of information in the process. One very interesting thing I learnt is that exercising for upto twenty minutes in the water is equal to exercising for 45 minutes on land! She also talked to us about how important it is not to go on crash diets but stick to a healthy diet. A complete check up with your doctor is an essential step before getting into such programmes followed by providing your instructor with the proper information so that your body is not burnt out by the end of the session.
Ofcourse, we were very lucky to be able to have Rekha teach us some of the basics and guide us when we threw questions at her. She is very quick to reply that unlike exercising on land, the body is comfortable in the water and is cushioned by it. It is safe for any age and is recommended for pregnant women and those tackling weight loss post delivery. Taking herself as example
Rekha tells us that losing weight in the water depends on the person, equipments used and classes attended. All this information was widely appreciated by all those who attended the meet and was a well organized get together. A big thank you to
Kumar Mitra, Denise Smith, Kuhu Majumdar and Anamika who gladly planned and arranged this coffee meet and all those present who made it a success.

Ardent fans of "King

The DI May Queen Ball which followed was understandably
overshadowed by the resounding success of Kabakos! The DI

Summer camp at DI. May 28-30, 2008
At DI, with summer comes a wide variety of activities and outings for the kids of the club. Such was the camp at DI this summer which brought out 40 odd kids for three fun-packed days. The DI summer camp was held during the first week of June for three days and gave the kids the opportunity to grow and make plenty of friends during the day!
They began with creating works of art on T-shirts, to acting out snippets and also found time to shake their legs at the end of it all. Even the little ones eagerly painted tumblers, and tried their best to do all that the elder ones did. The children were supervised by
Aunty Minu and her group of trusty helpers! Lunch time was the ONLY time the children managed to sit in one place for more than ten minutes and enjoy a healthy lunch organized by the club.
After lunch they were divided into groups and once again proved to everyone that they had sacks of talent and energy, while playing football and volleyball. Endless energy, enthusiasm, competitiveness and the love for sports is what this group of children displayed in the burning sun.
All in all the camp was a huge success and gave our kids the chance to shine as well as have a plenty of fun doing what they love. At the end of the three day camp, all the kids joined together to put on a small show for their proud parents who sat watching them with doting eyes. Many were heard saying that camps like this are a welcome break for these tired children who otherwise are cooped up at home with homework and assignments. Thanks to our enthusiastic entertainment committee we were able to give the kids three days of fun and frolic.
